Below is a message from In Other Words Bookstore, which has been an incredible venue for free education over the years, please support them!

Dear friends,
We want to first thank you for your continued and overwhelming support for our bookstore/community space. It is truly inspiring to see a community come together and rise up to sustain a feminist institution like In Other Words. We also want to let you know the status of our fundraising efforts to date.

We have reached our first goal! As of Monday, December 22nd, less than two weeks from the date of our initial plea, we have taken in over $13,000 from online, in-store, and event donations. Thanks to this support we will be able to pay back our short-term loan and begin digging ourselves out of debt.

As phenomenal as this, we still need to raise another $8,000 by the end of February to meet our second goal, which will enable us to pay down our expiring line of credit. We are still encouraging our supporters to make tax-deductible donations if they're able. We also encourage you to come buy 50% off books at our After Solstice Sale, which will be running January 12th-February 14th.

Thanks again to everyone who attended the fermentation festival. Special big thanks go out to all the great facilitators. If you got pictures, please send 'em our way. There seems to be a lot of support for doing this again next year so step on up for planning the next one. Read below for the announcement and schedule.

We are happy to announce a new collaboration with the CommUnity Arts Garage, a hub for skill-sharing in North East Portland at 3969 NE Rodney Ave (off Shaver). The Free School will begin operating out of the garage, a space that has already held many skillshares.

The Garage is a skill-share studio dedicated to creative collaboration, accessible education and community participation. It is available for holding classes, and you can also check out our resources page for other possible locations.

The Portland Grassroots Media Camp was very successful, with nearly 50 participant-focused media skills training workshops. About 150 attended at least one workshop, and several people came from as far away as Seattle and Hood River. 8 community and alternative media organizations in Multnomah County allowed us to use their space to hold workshops.
