Anyone need help with American Sign Language (ASL) or Exact English Sign (EES)? How about questions regarding speechreading (which used to be called lipreading)?
I've been totally deaf less than ten years, but my older sister has been deaf since birth, so I grew up finger-spelling (great practice for an English teacher) and signing. Next to English first and Spanish second, ASL is the third most "spoken" language in the U.S.
To prove an old dog can learn new tricks: I've been deaf through the entire cell-phone boom, so I never had one in my hand until two month ago. I bought a $20 phone (including charger) and pay $20 every 90 days for 1000 text messages. Ha ha ha, after reading the manual twice, I still couldn't operate it until a friend's 12-year-old grandson patiently worked with me. You should my thumb-punching skills now!
I'm open to any questions or concerns about deaf communications.

sign language
I don't know much, just a few words and the alphabet, but I have a textbook if we can get a small group together to learn/ be mentored. My goal is to make that my second language.
Sign language class
I live in Albany, but if a group will benefit from sharing and practicing signing, I can drive down to Portland for meetings.
Any class on sign should begin with fingerspelling the alphabet and numbers.
American Sign Language (ASL) is based on those finger positions.
Exact English Sign (EES) makes more sense to most hearing learners and is based on ASL, so it's all a progression.
Let's discuss details.
Sign Language class
I would be very interested to join the Sign Language class and I also know others who are interested also. I hope you can teach it.

signing
I would be really interested in learning to sign. I'm about to start working at a domestic violence shelter and sign language would be a great skill to have! Any chance of getting a group together?
signing class
I am interested in teaching sign. My first profession is massage therapy, now I am a Mother of a 3yr. old and am very interested in Sign Language. My daughter and I have learned some basics together and I do have a passion for it. Do you have some insight to how I could learn sign to one day teach sign? I am sure there are great instructors here in Portland, I am looking for the best.
thank you for your time!
Sign Language!
Portland Community College has a 2 year ASL Interpretation program.
I am not in the program but a new student of ASL. I would love to meet and chat/practice with others in Portland.

Sign Language
Hi, i'd love to learn sign language! sadly i'm on a very tight budget though so i don't know if a formal class is possible. if anyone knows of sign classes that are on the cheaper side please let me know!
i had the most amazing experience walking in to the swimming hall during the deaf games (swim meet) in melbourne, australia. i've never been in such a busy environment at a pool (usually very loud) that was completely silent. it was truely amazing and i'd love to learn to sign myself!
ASL
i would love to join a sign language class. i am studying by myself but a class would be much better. seems like there a lot of interest. perhaps a study/discussion group?
